Manchester Pride 2007 raises £95,000 for charity

Mancs raise the roof with their fundraising

Tuesday, 23 October 2007

Manchester Pride has announced a tidy sum for their summer Proud celebrations this week. Their ten day party in August saw the coffers of local LGBT and HIV charities increase by £95,000.

This is a figure that the city, and the 200,000 or so partygoers that attended should be proud of. As is Andrew Stokes, chairman of Manchester Pride. “This was the first year that Manchester Pride operated as a charity in its own right,” he said proudly, “naturally, I am delighted we have continued the tradition set by previous Manchester Pride events and raised funds for LGBT and HIV charities and groups in Greater Manchester. We have already lost far too many organisations for want of a few pounds and that is why Manchester Pride is committed to keep fundraising at the heart of everything we do. And I have to say, we’re only able to achieve what we do because of a great team of volunteers from Manchester Pride, George House Trust and the Lesbian & Gay Foundation. Their hard work and enthusiasm for Manchester Pride is a priceless asset, without which, we could not survive.”

With acts including The Gossip, Belinda Carlisle, Kate Lawler and Gareth Gates pulling over 40,000 ticket holders to Manchester Pride’s big weekend this annual celebration lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender life was huge success. Partying and providing. What more could you want from a weekend in Manchester?

In 2008, Manchester Pride celebrates its 18th birthday. Keep an eye on www.manchesterpride.com for more information of what is sure to be the city’s biggest ever coming of age party.
