Jimmegee's electronic life

Turn on, tune in, cop out. Well you'll definitely get the first two with Jimmegee. As for the copping out bit you may be waiting a long time – as Jimmygee explores the dancefloor and the lives that rotate around it. Old enough to have those 80's originals and yet young enough to appreciate the 21st Century twist those same sounds now take, let Jimmygee take you on a trip. Electronically flavoured of course.

It’s not often that I get all dewy-eyed over DJs. Yes, they do great work up there on the podium, yes, they are at the forefront of our dancing pleasure (the good ones, anyway), and yes, there are some you’ll make an extra special effort to follow, even when their choice of clubs is not necessarily in your top ten. But I’m probably too old now (did I tell you I’m nearly 40?) to get obsessed by a guy or a gal in a sweaty DJ box. I mean, whatever, right?

Then there’s The Freemasons. My God, have you heard those guys? Seriously, have you actually been to one of their sets? If you have, you probably won’t forget it in a long, long time. I don’t know what it is about them but they seem to have a truly magical touch. Each tune they pick (and, it has to be said, their sets pretty much include every track they’ve remixed recently) is just one big, bouncy, funky, bassy, rocky number that dares you, no, absolutely FORBIDS you to leave the dancefloor.

Freemasons played the official closing party at Brighton Pride recently and I danced so much, I woke up the next morning with major under-thigh chafing. Like, great big sore red marks with “DANCE, BEATCH!” written right through them. Perhaps there are some hardcore clubbers out there who reckon The Freemasons are not to their taste: too disco, too charty, too vocal. But you know what, I’ve yet to meet any.

I’m not sure where the boys from Brighton are next gigging, but it’s likely to be in Ibiza so keep an eye out and do-not-miss. Right, fanzine is now closed. Reckon I’ve got to slag someone off next time to strike a balance.
